Other Side of the Street

This is an eTwinning online project throughout the whole year. Only just finished, so hopefully more details of outcome and impact in a later communication. We had 6 students involved in groups of online students from across Europe – see eTwinning Dec Newsletter – link. We got our students to present what they had been doing in a week long to all year groups. These Ambassadors are also in our FIGHT Club – who will be setting weekly debates themes next year. As a result of attending an eTwinning session for Senior Ambassadors – on weekly debates – I have decided to actually include weekly debate pages to the student planners starting next year – they will have to write it in weekly.

An example of what this looks like:
“Our FIGHT club EPAS Ambassadors delivered an assembly on their eTwinning collaborative online project – they reflected on the Gospel of Luke 4:1–13, where Jesus resists temptation in the wilderness, highlighting the values of self-control, integrity, and faith. They discussed how these lessons can inspire us to reject harmful impulses and choose kindness and justice. The assembly connected this theme to Catholic Social Teaching, emphasizing the importance of standing up for the dignity of others, especially the marginalized. As part of the EPAS program, the students are exploring the persistent issue of social inequality, focusing on the discrimination faced by many groups of people, such as the LGBTQ+ community throughout history and today. They shared statistics revealing ongoing violence and mental health struggles within this group and called for greater understanding, legal protection, and societal support. The students urged everyone to take action against all forms of discrimination—through respectful conversation, inclusive education, and advocacy—to help build a safer, fairer world. The assembly closed with a prayer asking for strength to follow Jesus’ example, especially during Lent, by resisting selfishness and standing up for what is right.”

EPAS Team Comment

Great to see your Junior Ambassadors collaborating with their peers from across Europe, even more so when it’s such an important issue. We think adding the weekly debates will be highly beneficial: helping students to learn how to assess arguments, respectfully disagree, and being open to changing their minds.
